▶ LEZLIE TILLEY + MAJOR ARTISTS, MAJOR WORKS, CLOSING 3 MARCH
A gentle reminder to visit the solo exhibition by LEZLIE TILLEY and the group show MAJOR ARTISTS, MAJOR WORKS before they both close on Saturday 3 March.
The angular and abstracted forms of Lezlie Tilley's current exhibition were created by connecting the 'a's' on a page from a novel. The shapes have then been laser cut in predominantly bright red, coloured acrylic which makes for an amazingly dynamic show. Due to the ongoing nature of the concept of the 'a-less novel', further works can also be commissioned in a wide range of materials including timber, metal and ply.
From Senden Blackwood's sensual, one tonne basalt sculpture to the minute watercolour figures, deftly hidden in Mylyn Nguyen's found chairs, the Major Artists, Major Works exhibition highlights the diversity of talent present in the Gallery's stable of artists.
Our next exhibitions during Art Month, will feature work by represented artists, James Guppy and Will Coles, from Tuesday March 6. If you are already on our notification list, we will send you an email as soon as the work arrives in the Gallery.

▶ TODD FULLER AT BACK TO BACK GALLERIES
Todd Fuller will, over the time of the week between Christmas and New Year be drawing on the walls of the main gallery at Back to Back Galleries - Todd is photographing the drawing as he goes and the photographs of the drawings will then become an animation ... and the walls will have talked.
In Todd's words: "Drawing is what happens when you dare to take a line on a walk, but what happens when that line is not welcome where it wanders? What happens when that line dares to explore a narrative or to interact with a real person in a real space?"
This is a teaser for a longer look at this work as it progresses from bare walls to completion.

▶ LAST WEEK IN 2011 AT BRENDA MAY GALLERY
A friendly reminder that 2 Danks Street will close for the summer break on Saturday 24 December at 5pm. This means the coming week will be the last chance to view the exhibitions by Tanmaya Bingham and Waratah Lahy and to do any last minute shopping before Christmas. The complex will reopen with a combined galleries Gala Night on Wednesday 18 January and our annual group exhibition, Sculpture 2012.

▶ TODD FULLER: FLATLINE LAUNCH PERFORMANCE
Friday December 9th saw the inaugural performance by the dance/art collective Flatline. The collective is a collaboration by Todd Fuller and Carl Sciberras. Their performance was held at the iO Myers Studio at the University of New South Wales and has been reviewed by Dance Australia (available here). We would like to congratulate Flatline on the successful launch of an exciting and innovative collaboration. ▶ PRIZES: TODD FULLER, FINALIST IN RBS EMERGING ARTIST AWARD + WILL COLES, FINALIST IN UWS SCULPTURE AWARD
Congratulations are in order for represented artists Todd Fuller and Will Coles.
Todd Fuller has been selected as one of twenty-five finalists in the Royal Bank of Scotland Emerging Artist Award with his animated film 'The Doctors.'
Will Coles has been selected as a finalist for the University of Western Sydney 2012 Sculpture Award with his sculpture 'Memorial to the unknown armchair general.'

▶ TODD FULLER, CLOSING 27 AUGUST
The narrative threaded throughout 'Tense' emanates from the hand-drawn films, projected onto the wall in a theatrette and also on iPods within the bellies of two of the sculptures. Todd Fuller draws upon his own experiences and the animations are brimming with stories of love, loss, anxiety and isolation. The sculptures, shaped in earthenware and clay, appear to be the three-dimensional realisations of the characters in his films.
The stories of 'Tin Man' and 'Barry in the Wings' began in Paris while Fuller completed a residency at the Cité International Des Arts. From the quintessentially Parisian streets to the references of the 'Little Dancer...' by Degas, the experiences of this young artist permeate every level of the exhibition. According to Fuller, "at the end of the day the characters are my alter egos, so I am giving the audience an insight into the real and raw me."

▶ TODD FULLER, OPENING 6 AUGUST
The much anticipated exhibition by TODD FULLER will be on view starting Tuesday 2 August 2011. Please join us for a drink to celebrate the launch of his first major solo exhibition on Saturday 6 August from 4-6pm.
Fuller's work is drawn from his own personal narrative as an untraditional Australian male, however his figures engage with the everyday pitfalls that are relevant to us all. Fuller's tiny, rotund men are many things, but mostly they are just in need of a good hug.
'Tense' is a show which brings together the artist's ongoing investigation into the notions of masculinity and a showcase for the cast of misfit male characters who have resulted. His leading men are potbellied, schadenfreude worthy ceramic figures who are also the stars of Fuller's captivating hand drawn animations.
